On March 30/31st 2019, Bill and Amanda will be presenting at the Slow The Flow: Calderdale (STFC) 'Community-led Natural Flood Management' conference at Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

Slow The Flow: Calderdale is a small local charity working on Natural Flood Management (NFM), promoting SuDS/ rain gardens, monitoring and education, which 2B has been heavily involved with through Amanda's role as a founding trustee.

THE SPEAKERS

Bill Blackledge is a Chartered Landscape Architect and Managing Director of 2B Landscape Consultancy Ltd, a Registered Practice of the Landscape Institute, based in Yorkshire. 2B has incorporated SuDS into landscape projects for clients in sectors such as housing, manufacturing, and healthcare.  Bill is Vice-Chair of the Landscape Institute’s Technical Committee.

Amanda McDermott is a Chartered Landscape Architect at 2B and a founder member of Slow the Flow Calderdale. As a resident of Calderdale, and impacted by the floods herself, Amanda has championed Sustainable Drainage in both a personal and professional capacity.

THE CONTENT

Managing storm water through Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) offers many advantages over traditional underground schemes, in terms of water quality, biodiversity and cost-effectiveness. ‘Soft SuDS’, such as swales and balancing ponds, offer green solutions that can create exciting new landscapes which benefit both people and wildlife.

Hear how STFC and 2B have been working with others to encourage the wider use of SuDS, including how the courtyard of our conference venue, Hebden Bridge Town Hall, has been retro-fitted to divert storm water to rain garden planters.
