The historic market place of Barrow-Upon-Humber, in North Lincolnshire, is to be given a new lease of life, thanks to the initiative of the Better Barrow community group and expertise of 2B Landscape Consultancy.
2B Landscape Consultancy was unanimously selected by the Better Barrow committee to begin a process of engaging with local residents, and producing plans for the market place at the heart of Barrow.
Competition entries were whittled down from ten design teams to a shortlist of three, each of which presented their ideas to the Better Barrow group. 2B was chosen to take the project forward because of its enthusiasm for the project and commitment to community engagement.
The aim of the project will be to create an engaging, fun, living space - to be the heart of Barrow, at the heart of Barrow. It will celebrate Barrow’s history, in particular the connection to John Harrison, who famously solved the longitude problem.2B Landscape Consultancy was unanimously selected by the Better Barrow committee to begin a process of engaging with local residents, and producing plans for the market place at the heart of Barrow.

The design for the market place will be developed with the Better Barrow group and local residents. The project will be seeking Heritage Lottery and other funding, and is supported by North Lincolnshire Council.
The images below show the initial competition entry, but we expect the design to alter radically as we engage with the Better Barrow group in a collaborative design process.
